The mission of the Flint Riverkeeper is to restore and preserve the habitat, water quality and flow of the Flint River for the benefit of current and future generations and dependent wildlife.  Each year Flint Riverkeeper hires a local artist to design a print to be used on T-shirts in which all proceeds go towards the organization's  preservation efforts.  I was the artist chosen in 2024, which led to further projects, such as poster and merch design for the Knobby Knees Festival, another fundraising effort for the preservation of the enchanting Flint River, one of Georgia's true gems.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
I worked in close contact with Henry Jackson, Director of Outreach and development at Flint Riverkeeper to come up with a design incorporating the Shoal Bass, a fish native to Georgia that both of us truly hold dear.  The native fish, the shoals, and the shoal lillies in this design are quintessential elements of the Flint River's allure.  All projects begin with a sketch, or a series of rough sketches.
Everyone at Riverkeeper were in agreement that they liked sketch #2 best. I came up with designs in black and white, as well as color, to be used on T-shirts and decals.
KNOBBY KNEES
Flint Riverkeeper's  annual Knobby Knees Music Festival celebrates the watershed, features top shelf local musicians, and raises vital funds to support their fight for the preservation of the pristine Flint River.  I was asked to come up with a design that encapsulates the vibe of the lower Flint River and its diverse eco-system.  I came up with a playful design that incorporates the cypress trees that line the banks of the  lower Flint, paying homage to its inhabitants such as crawdads, Shoal Bass, Largemouth, Striped Bass, Gar, Mussels , and the Alligator.
